The do's and dont's of websites

Dont ignore the audience- Always keep your target audience in mind.

Do optimise for search- Make sure when you update your website and add new pages, make sure you're following the most recent SEO guidelines.

Don't create a cluttered layout- The viewer won't know where to direct their attention

Do create a focal point- Make the focal point on your homepage no matter what the purpose.#

Dont use all the colours- This will make your website clash

Do use colour combos- The colours should reflect the brand you're promoting

Dont fill the page with long paragraphs- Put it a clean spacious area separated into different chunks of text

Do make it easily scannable- This has a better chance of luring the readers

Don't make it hard for users to find what they need- Readers shouldn't have to spend more than a few seconds to find what they need

Do set up proper navigation- Use colours to make the navigation simple

Dont use too many fonts- A website that uses five different fonts loses users in seconds because it takes too much effort to read.

Do select the right fonts- Fonts have a huge impact on legibility

Dont use too many images- 50% of mobile users won't recommend a website that's not optimised for mobiles.

Do test for functionality- Give your mobile users the function to find what they need

Dont ignore the power of convention- People are used to certain structures and websites.

Do be creative and unique- Use elements that make your site unique without disturbing the flow of information.

Dont forget to take it for a test drive- make sure everything works

Do think like a CEO- Website designers need to think like a CEO and an artist

What I like about this website is how simple it is and how it is easy to use as the tabs are there for you. The one thing I dislike it when you click on courses or news and media there is no home button however on the others there is. Another good thing about this website is how they have social media links, their logo, contact us, how to apply, job applications and even a search bar.
The application page has 'instructions/ requirements' to the course e.g. age.
the four tabs at the front take you to different parts of the website depending on what you click, This helped give me some inspiration for mine

One thing I like about this website is that it does have the menu bar with the separate sections such as 'courses'  However, there is the phone number at the top and then there is 'Contact us' which may confuse some people as they won't know where to go. when hovering over the tabs there is a drop down menu which allows you to chose where you want to go in the website

This is a real website however, it doesn't seem it due to the random menu bars such as being able to watch their staff live! and how unpractical it looks as everything is happening at once, the background is rather distracting, also all the stickers such as the 'Brexist risk free' and how you can actually play games while buying a car.

This website also doesn't seem real due to the photos of the products, they seem rather fake. Also in the bottom right corner you can 'Chat with Matt' when normally it says 'chat here' Another thing is the name of the products are really long, usually it'd say "Flashing red heart body light" then when you click it you will be given a description saying its battery operated and things about the product. When clicking on the buttons, it is very simple and takes you straight to the page you want

My research was benifital to me as it helped me with my layout to my own website as I used some ideas from other websites and merged them together to create my own! it was also beneficial to me as I got an understanding of what is needed on a college website.
